Product Description: The original, empty magnetic makeup palette with a clear window that can hold all of your favorite makeup in one easy place. Customize, simplify, and organize makeup of any brand in one sleek palette while downsizing bulky packaging and making touch-ups on the go a breeze. Remove eyeshadow pans, blushes, powders, bronzers even lipsticks and concealers from other palettes using the included metal spatula and instruction guide. Use the included metal stickers to magnetize non-metal pans instantly.

The actual Z-palette brand’s origin I know nothing about. All I know is they are widely popular for empty palettes.

Details: comes with 11 metal magnets for product pans that are not magnetic. The magnets are extremely firm and stay put until they are removed from the pan. The circle magnets fit the Colourpop shadows perfectly. I don’t know what I’m going to do with the small square magnets in the corner. The palettes come in baby, small, dome, and double sized.

I don’t have a major single pan collection nor do I depot. The baby size is perfect to hold my Colourpop single shadows (they are already magnetic. I wish I knew before I used the magnet circles with them). As I was playing around with the palette, the palette also held my Urban Decay and Buxom single shadows perfectly (I didn’t need to depot them). The palette is slim and lightweight. If I plan on traveling with this, it will definitely lighten my load.

If anyone is not a major depotter or has a massive individual pan collection, the baby size Z-palette is the best way to get started

To add to my Kat Von D obsession is the Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation Medium 53 0.31 oz/ 9 g ($35).

Packaging– Sturdy compact with a magnifying mirror

Type– Pressed Powder Foundation

Finish– Medium to full coverage matte with a yellow undertone.

I don’t like yellowy face makeup, but the yellow is not harsh and balanced out. I was able to turn the powder  full coverage by using a dry beauty sponge or a firm flat top powder brush. It works great to set under the eyes and face.

Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation with Primer Sample and Brush $42 at HSN.

Formula: Light weight Liquid

Packaging: Glass w/a pump

Finish: Matte

Shade: 2.2

Since liquid matte foundations get uncomfortable and cakey, I do not like to wear them for long periods of time or on a daily basis. Studio Skin is so feather light weight it felt like I wasn’t wearing anything, did not settle in my lines, and comfortable enough to wear for longer periods of time. The foundation shade range is interesting. Shades are numbered except HSN does not provide the full shade range. I am attracted to sets with full size brushes. The Smashbox Foundation Brush is ok. I haven’t noticed much of a difference with this brush and the others I use.

I’ll provide links and a short description the best way I can of this edition of empties.

  Trader Joe’s

  • All in One Facial Cleanser– This is my ‘rotation’ cleanser. I purchase this once start needing cleanser and don’t feel like hunting for a new one. Benefits- removes makeup easily and is exceptionally potent.
  • Antioxidant Facial Serum (top photo L)- I was using the serum mixed with my makeup to add more nourishment to my skin. It has a citrus scent from the vitamin C but has no cooling effect like most serums.

I can’t find links to the products on the Trader Joe’s website. I think the prices vary at each store.

Skinn Cosmetics

I am the biggest Skinn Cosmetics fan. I have been satisfied with all my purchases and skin results. My Skinn empties were purchased from individual kits. I like the serums because they are so cooling, refreshing, and hydrating; the Pore Detox is a gentle scrub and ok; and the Olive & Enzyme Cleanser is the perfect cream for makeup removal.

Korres

The Eye Cream and Brightening Oil did work wonders for my skin but is pricey.

Hair Care

  • Paul Mitchel Super Skinny Hair Serum– I don’t review hair care products (I might start). The serum feels so good on my hair. I’ve purchased it twice. It smells good and isn’t oily or greasy.

I don’t plan on repurchasing any of these items. Korres and Skinn items were from value sets on Evine and HSN, and maybe I’ll end up with those again if they come in sets. I have nothing against Paul Mitchel, Korres, and Skinn, but my skin and hair routine continuously changes. During each change, I try other items from them to meet my current needs.

I was very late to post my September favorites, and since we are half way through October, I figured it would be better to combined them.

Colourpop

  • Muse and So Quiche Super Shock Eye Shadows
  • Ultra Satins in Dopey, Femme, and Point Zero

Muse, So Quiche, Dopey, Femme, and Point Zero are perfect for fall and my skin tone. I’m getting into bolder colors, and these shades are bolder compared to what I normally choose to wear.

Urban Decay

  • 8 hr After Glow Highlighter in Fireball (I never made a full review on this). Fireball works great for medium skin. It has peach and pink duochrome and catches the light.

Tarte

  • Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. It is in a loose powder matte formula. I use this for baking under my eyes and setting my makeup.  There are days were I do not want to wear foundation. This powder offers enough coverage I can wear it alone without foundation.

The new Kat Von D Shade and Light Face Contour Refillable Palette. The full palette is $46 and the individual pans are $16. I am a major fan of her original palette. The Refillable Palette is still the original palette with the same colors but new packaging. Once I use up the original palette, I plan on getting an individual refillable pan in Shadow Play (the center contour shade). I stopped using Sombre (first contour shade) and Subconscious (third contour shade). Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Palette Refill Shadowplay 0.08 oz/ 2.3 g (middle) is my favorite especially as a bronzer.

The Refillable Palette is available on the Sephora website.

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette (16 shimmer and matte shadows) $42. I don’t have swatches because on me there is not too much to swatch.

 The matte shadows

  • Almond Truffle
  • Satin Sheets
  • Cashew Chew
  • Pecan Praline
  • Bordeaux
  • Mocha

Shimmer shadows

  • Cotton Candy
  • Cafe au Lait
  • Totally Fetch
  • Sprinkles
  • Molasses Chip
  • Divinity
  • Earl Grey
  • Malted

The shades I like the most are Almond Truffle, Cafe au Lait, Totally Fetch, Earl Grey, and Bordeaux. I became attracted to the Bon Bons Palette earlier this year and held off before purchasing. I’m glad I purchased this palette. I was mainly attracted to the matte eye shadows for blending and transitioning shades. Since I have hooded eyes, the matte eye shadows are ideal. The shadow compact is firm except I don’t like the way it closes. It snaps shut but closes weird. I do think the Bon Bon’s palette is ideal to travel or take on the go. 14 of the eye shadows are heart shaped except I don’t understand why Satin Sheets (shimmer) and Divinity (matte) are rectangular.

There are plenty of tutorials on how to coordinate the palette. The palette appears to be very versatile with looks.
